After extensive renovations, the East Utica Library has been reimagined as The Local. The books are still here, so are the original hardwood floors and wood panels. Join us for a cup of coffee and sit down to a good book in front of the fireplace.

Built in 1913, the structure that houses our store and cafe was once site to the East Utica Library. Local architect, Frederick H. Gouge was commissioned by Rachel Williams and her husband Frederick T. Proctor for its construction to cater to the growing community of Italian and Polish immigrants occupying the neighborhood. It officially opened its doors on Nov. 11, 1913, issuing 1,750 library cards and circulating 11,900 books during its first three months of operation.
